Living Room View
For this renovation in the Oakland hills, the existing space was entirely modeled. The new maple wood railing with the steel "X" design, which separates the raised dining area from the living room, appears to penetrate the window wall as it changes into the railing for the outdoor deck, extending the living space into the woods beyond. With this design device, the inside and outside spaces were integrated, eliminating the formerly clear division between them. The furnishings include a sofa upholstered in a soft shade of chenille, a leaf motif rug and a coffee table with a river rock filled trough. Natural shades of color and warm textures are used throughout.
